THAILAND Kirin unit to build infant formula ingredients plant in Thailand November 2020
A unit of Kirin Holdings Co., Kyowa Hakko Bio Co., is planning to build a new plant in Thailand to make human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) to meet growing demand for infant formula ingredients.
Kyowa Hakko will invest about Yen 7 billion (US$67 million) to set up the plant at its local subsidiary, Thai Kyowa Biotechnologies Co., in Rayong Province.
Construction will commence in December and the new plant will start operations in 2022 with an annual capacity of some 300 tonnes. This key production base in Thailand will cater to the demand for HMOs in powdered milk in China and Southeast Asia.
