SINGAPORE Plant-based chicken meat company set up R&D centre in Singapore November 2020
Small startup in the plant-based meat space, Next Gen has strengthened its presence by setting up its HQ and R&D centre in Singapore.
Next Gen aims to churn out its alternative chicken product for the market by March 2021.
Its US$2.2 million seed funding is provided by co-founder and Chief Executive Timo Recker, through his exit from German plant-based meat company, LikeMeat. This capital is used to assemble the small team of 6 as well as the R&D centre. Next Gen hopes to raise another round of funding in 2nd half of 2021.
Presently, Next Gen has the capacity to supply up to 9,000 restaurants a year by partnering with leading manufacturers around the globe.
According to Recker, Asia has a lot of potential for the plant-based meat category although it is still far behind developed markets like the US and Europe. Recker said that there are many companies now doing alternative ‘beef’ or ‘pork’ burgers but none has been seriously pursuing the ‘chicken’ alternative.
