Indonesian company utilising coconut to produce an array of organic food products
An Indonesian SME (small and medium enterprise), Mitra Niaga Indonesia, has successfully produced a wide range of organic food products using coconut as the main ingredient component.
According to Mr Agam Dwi Syahdan, Marketing Manager of Mitra Niaga, the company's latest product is its organic coconut chips which was launched in 2018, and are now distributed to Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand. Apart from coconut chips, the company has also introduced other variants like coconut flakes and slices.
The coconut chips, available in 80-100g packaging is currently sold at US$2-US$3 and the company swears that its product is 100% organic and certified by USDA, JAS and EU. Agam said that many products in the market claim to be organic but they are not entirely made of organic ingredients. Agam said, "We realise that organic and healthy food is the future of the food industry. The American and European market is now seeing a growing trend for organic food. It is even becoming a new lifestyle there. We are also concerned of our responsibility to the environment. By only doing organic farming, we have contributed to keeping nature save from any dangerous contaminants that could endanger its sustainability."
Apart from coconut chips or snacks, the company also manufactures organic Coconut Nectar and Coconut Aminos, both in concentrated liquid formulations in 2016. Coconut Nectar is gluten- and GMO-free viscous coconut palm sugar which can have many applications in cooking, salad, dessert/bakery, in tea/coffee, and many other applications. According to Agam, coconut nectar was made as a good substitute for honey.
On the other hand, Coconut Aminos is a substitute for soy sauce and offers an abundant source of amino acids, minerals and vitamins which can be applied to cooking – in salad, as meat-marinade, sushi and soups etc. Agam added that quite a large number of people are allergic to 'soy', this product will be a good alternative. In addition, its Coconut Aminos also has a low GI which has many benefits like weight control, and improving glucose and lipid level in blood. The coconuts that are used in manufacturing these products are sourced domestically from Central and West Java.
Apart from the 3 existing organic coconut products, Mitra Niaga Indonesia is planning to launch several new products in 2020 and they include coconut aminos powder, coconut water powder and coconut butter and jam.
Mitra Niaga Indonesia is certainly a good contact source for a distributor looking for a wide range of organic coconut products.
