VIETNAM March 2020
Vietnam exported more than half a billion worth of processed Coffee in 2019
Vietnam exported about 143,000 tonnes of instant and ground roasted coffee valued at US$516 million in 2019.
The country now houses 4 coffee factories, each with a production capacity ranging from 4,000 to 20,000 tonnes. Domestic firms, although with limited financial muscle, have injected funds into their coffee plants and they include Tin Nghia Coffee Corporation, Intimex Group, Viet My International JSC, An Thai Group and Vinacafe Bien Hoa.
Foreign businesses have also unveiled plan to invest in Vietnam lucrative coffee segment. Domestic coffee consumption grew at double-digit 10% and is expected to rise 15% in the coming years.
The Central Highlands region, known for its sprawling coffee plantations, has contributed 30% to the coffee industry’s total sales revenue.
Unfortunately, due to adverse climate change, coffee farmers have to replant coffee trees amounting to up to 118,000 hectares currently. This has hampered the productivity of the farmers.
Coffee is an important cash crop to the country as such, Vietnam has even dedicated one day, Vietnam Coffee Day, to promote Vietnamese coffee and coffee culture to the world.
