Ajinomoto to build new ‘Halal’ Plant in Malaysia
Major Japanese seasonings producer, Ajinomoto Co. has recently unveiled plan to invest RM355 million (US$84.7 million) to build a new plant in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia to enhance its development and output of Halal products.
The plant will take over operations at Ajinomoto's existing factory in Kuala Lumpur with effect from April 2022. Construction of the new plant is scheduled to commence in October this year.
The new plant will produce its popular umami and other seasoning products. The company did not disclose the new plant's production capacity. However, the new plant will strengthen Ajinomoto’s position as an established Halal food seasoning producer, with improved capacity to manufacture new products on top of its existing products across both consumer and industrial business segments.
Ajinomoto will utilise the new plant to boost the development of products that suit local tastes in Southeast Asian countries. It will also improve the group’s long-term export potential particularly with regards to sales to the Middle East markets which have grown at a CAGR of 10% over the past 5 years.
Japan-based Ajinomoto has expanded its seasoning production through overseas plants in 16 countries including the US, China, France, Nigeria, Brazil and Thailand.
