Urschel's latest SL-14 slicing head offers higher capacity, cost savings to Potato Chip producers
Urschel's latest microadjustable SL-14 slicing head is now available in flat, v-cut and crinkle shapes to meet the needs of regional snack producers in the potato chip segment specifically.
SL-14 offers 14 cutting stations compared to the existing standard 8 station head to deliver nearly twice the capacity. While an undisclosed competitor could offer a higher 16 cutting stations, Urschel SL-14 slices larger potatoes more effectively and with better performance, as the distance between Urschel knifes is 82.55mm while the competition is 69.85mm. A shorter knife distance translates to greater scrap.
Apart from its higher capacity, SL-14 also offers cost-savings as its knife holders cost approximately 1/6 of other competitive holders. This makes economic sense to a manufacturer who has to face the inevitable replacement due to rocks or debris got stuck in the processing.
The new SL-14 design also reduces rooster combing, increases knife life and produces better cut quality throughout its production runs.
In terms of repair, Urschel just like its competitor, can have its knife holders repaired by peening and filing.
In terms of operational efficiency, the new SL-14 also offers changeover time savings as it features quick-clamping flat knives and an installation tool on V-cut and crinkle shapes.
In addition, SL-14 durable design helps to protect it against harsh production environment. It also continues to offer infinite adjustability to recalibrate from a zero setting to continue to provide an accurate, repeatable and that perfect slice.
US-based Urschel has been working with potato chip processors since the introduction of the Model CC Slicer in 1959. Its more than half a century experience in this segment certainly bodes well, with Urschel being a credible supplier to this industry.
