A Singapore-based manufacturer, Seng Hong Co. Pte Ltd has launched in September a RTE corn in a can with easy peel aluminium foil lid.
According to Kenny Seah, Managing Director of Seng Hong, this RTE corn, complete with a plastic spoon enclosed, is a convenient on-the-go snack for both children as well as working adults.
The savoury corn product comes with creamy sweet corn kernels under the brand of Golden Boy and is available in 3 variants namely Hokkaido Milk, Chicken Consomme and Milano Pizza. It is packaged in a 135g can and retail at S$1.85 (US$1.34).
The company has also gained Halal certification for the product. Seng Hong targets to sell these unique snack products to supermarkets and convenience stores. Golden Boy Savoury Corn products are manufactured in Thailand.
Kenny added that Seng Hong is the first company in Asia to introduce such product i.e. 'savoury corn in a can' for the market. There are also different applications for this product as the 'savoury corn' can also act as a dipping sauce, a salad dressing, spread or even an ingredient for corn soup with just the need to add hot water to it.
Seng Hong has ambitious plan to export this product to Dubai, Hong Kong and Taiwan in the near future. In the Singapore market, this product can also be bought online and at the same time, will soon be available at major supermarkets like Fairprice, Giant and 7-Eleven stores.
